Every semester, each active brother must complete certain requirements or risk being on probation the following semester.  If a brother does not fulfill all requirements in his/her last semester, that brother will graduate in bad standing.

The Beta Mu chapter of Phi Sigma Pi bases its requirements on a points system as described below.  Each Brother must acquire 40 points in the following ways over the course of each semester:

Any Brother who does not reach the points stated above by the end of the semester will be placed on probation until they gain the points they missed.

Points will be given as follows:

10 points for attending 80% of the Brotherhood meetings (if a Brother has perfect attendance they will receive an extra 3 points)

5 points will be given for fulfilling the Initiate Requirement (NOTE: EVERY BROTHER MUST FULFILL THE INTIAITE REQUIREMENT)

5 points will be given for fulfilling the Rush requirement, which includes final voting (NOTE: EVERY BROTHER MUST FULFILL THE RUSH REQUIREMENT AND ATTEND FINAL VOTE)

3 points will be given to any Brother who attends at least one event from every committee.

2 points will be given for any Alumni, Fellowship, Fundraising, Leadership, ICR, Greek Relations Committee, Public Relations, and Scholarship featured event attended (NOTE: THESE COMMITTEES ARE REQUIRED TO PLAN 2 FEATURED EVENTS EVERY SEMESTER.)

1 point will be given to any Brother who attends other Brother’s events that are not used as a committee event

1 point will be given to any Brother who attends a committee event that is not one of their two featured events

Every Brother MUST attend one Fellowship, Fundraising, Leadership, and Scholarship event.

Clarifications:

Featured event: Any event in which the committee has planned and thought of on its own can be a featured event. The event can be exclusive to the Brotherhood or can reach out to the greater GW community. (Some examples of a featured event are: 50/50 raffle, Iron Chef Tournament, Alternative Greek Week, and the park clean up.)

Events such as organizing a trip to the Kennedy Center, participating in a walk, or going to a Nationals’ game are not considered a featured event.

Because of the importance of rituals, if you miss one you are automatically on probation until you make it up, but all other types of probation either begin at the end of the semester or as soon as you are no longer able to fulfill the requirement.  As soon as you make up your requirement, you will be taken off probation and may vote.  Please note that you may not go inactive if you are on probation.

If you do not pay your dues or if you are on probation for 2 semesters in a row, there will automatically be a motion for your expulsion by the penultimate meeting of the 2nd semester of probation.

If you are on probation, you are required not only to fulfill all requirements in the next semester, but also to make up any missed requirements from the previous semester in order to get off probation.  If you fail to do so, your probation will be extended for another semester and you will be eligible for expulsion.
